Today, the 11th graders outlined several steps to clear, effective communication:
1. Think about what you are going to say/have an idea
2. Talk loudly and clearly (no mumbling or whispering)
3. Maintain appropriate eye contact (2-3 second intervals)
4. Pace yourself--switch from slow to fast depending on how you want to emphasize the pieces of  the message
5. Don't be presumptuous--don't presume that the person already knows about your message.           Instead, briefly provide background information to help them follow along
6. Give examples to support your idea
7. Ask questions to check for understanding

They concluded that these strategies help in the following situations:
--relationships
--job interviews
--writing
--presentations
--teaching
--and it shows respect
